Nathaniel Wheeler Grant

Vol. 1, No. 4 - Fall 2001

In April, the Goddard Association received a grant from the Nathaniel Wheeler Trust to landscape the Goddard Memorial site. The plantings will include cherry trees, to commemorate Goddard's "cherry tree dream", laurel, holly and siberian cypress which will bring four-season color to the site. Beamis Nursery of Spencer will oversee the installation. Work is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2002. The Association appreciates the support of the Wheeler Trust, and the advice of John Trexler Executive Director of the Tower Hill Botanic Garden, Mrs. Jo Dorman, President of the Worcester Garden Club, Mr. Paul Rogers, Horticulturist, and Mr. Edward Bemis of Bemis Farms Nursery who advised us on the selection of appropriate plants. The grant will enable us to beautify the site and make it a fitting tribute to Goddard's memory.
